Emmetsburg – Funeral services for Gladys Ellen Sidles, 95, of Emmetsburg will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 1 at the United Methodist Church in Emmetsburg with the Rev. Jim Morris officiating. Interment will be held at Eastside Center [East Side Cemetery] in Estherville. She died on Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2003 at the Emmetsburg Care Center in Emmetsburg.

Visitation will be held after 4 p.m. today at the Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg.

Gladys was born on Feb. 4, 1908 on a farm near Rodman, the daughter of Edgar and Maggie (Mason) Harris. As a child, the family moved to Estherville. She attended country school near Estherville.

On June 19, 1929 she was united in marriage to James “Dick” Sidles at the Methodist Church in Dolliver. After their marriage they farmed near Huntington for 15 years. Dick died on June 18, 1979. As an occupation, Gladys cleaned home for 30 years.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Emmetsburg.

Gladys is survived by three children, Darlene Naig and her husband, Joe of Emmetsburg, Arvin Sidles and his wife, Lorraine of Emmetsburg and Terry “Pete” Sidles and his wife, Roxanne of Spirit Lake; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Roy, Louie and Frank Harris; four sisters, Mary Wood, Laura Norris, Emma Peterson and Ethel Smith and one son, Donald. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 28, 2003)
