Estherville – Funeral services for Irene Schichtl, 84, of Estherville will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 15, 1999 at the First Presbyterian Church, Estherville with the Rev. Mark Gabbard officiating. Interment will be at East Side Cemetery, Estherville. She died on October 11, 1999 at Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.

She was born on December 3, 1914, in Luverne the daughter of Otto and May (Sankey) Ramus. She attended school in Luverne and graduated from Luverne High School. On June 20, 1932, she was united in marriage to P.D. Schichtl in Canton, S.D. The couple made their home at Luverne where Irene worked at the Corner Grocery Store. In 1944, they moved to Estherville. Irene has worked at the Ben Franklin Store, Sioux Valley Fishline Company and the J.C. Penny Store. P.D. died on November 28, 1991. She enjoyed being with her family, watching baseball and playing cards.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Wa Tan Ye Club in Estherville.

She is survived by her son, Jerry Schichtl and wife of Estherville; grandson, Jeff Schichtl and wife of Estherville; granddaughter, Vicki Garrelts and husband of Estherville; three great-grandchildren and four sisters, Anna Marr of Sauk Centre, Minn., Betty Wahrer and husband of West Des Moines, Norma Marshall and husband of Algona and Janice Schultz and husband of Mora, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother and three sisters. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, October 13, 1999)
