Estherville – Memorial services for Dorothy M. [Mildred] Rogers, 87, of Estherville will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5 at the First Christian Church in Estherville with the Rev. Will Reger officiating. Interment will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Estherville. She died on Sunday, Sept. 29, 2002 at the Good Samaritan Center in Estherville.

Dorothy was born on June 17, 1915 in Estherville, the daughter of Ike and Louise (Hawk) Rogers. She received her education in the Estherville schools graduating from Estherville High School in 1933.

The WPA was her first employer following her graduation from high school. She worked in the office of the Emmet County Superintendent of schools, Marie Sorum, and Sheriff Cliff Fredericksen. Later she was employed at the Estherville Daily News.

She also served as Deputy City Clerk for the City of Estherville during the terms of George W. Shadel, V.H. (Ole) Sidles and Glenn Story. She resigned to work for “Bill” Recher at Motor Supply Company for less than two years when she became bookkeeper for Stanley and Roalnd Fagre at Fagre Construction Company, Inc. and Estherville Sand and Gravel Company Inc. until her retirement.

Dorothy’s hobbies included reading and writing letters weekly to shut-in friends and reading books.

Dorothy was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) where she had served as a church school teacher and was active in women’s groups as an officer and lesson leader. In Masonic affiliation organizations Dorothy was a Past Matron of the Order of Eastern Star. She served as the second Mother Advisor of Rainbow for Girls and was Past Worthy High Priestess of the White Shrine. In 1946, Dorothy was President of the local Wa-Tan-Ye Club and she has been an active member until recently.

Dorothy will be missed by her nieces, nephews, their families and her many friends.

She has been preceded in death by her parents. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, October 1, 2002)
