Estherville Man Dies of Cancer
Harry Peterson, 77, of Estherville, retired farmer, died Sunday [September 29, 1968] about 8:30 p.m. at Holy Family Hospital, where he had been a patient for about six weeks. His death was attributed to cancer.Harry Chris Peterson was born March 29, 1891 in Denmark, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Peterson. When he was three years old he moved with his family to the United States. The family settled in Iowa and later moved to Emmet County, where Mr. Peterson lived the rest of his life.
He was married in March, 1914, to Mary Haar. They were married in the home of the late Mr. and Mrs. Mack Groves of Estherville.
After their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Peterson lived on farms in the Estherville area. Mrs. Peterson died in 1956.
Mr. Peterson was a member of the former Emmet Consolidated School Board, was a director of the Farmers State Mutual Insurance Company, a member of the First Presbyterian Church, a member of the Knights of Pythias, and of the Emmet County Zoning Board.
He is survived by his son, Mack Peterson of Estherville; two grandsons, Michael of Grinnell and Randall of Estherville; two brothers, William of Alpha, Minn., and Andrew of Huntington; and two sisters, Mrs. George (Laura) Haar of Ruthven and Mrs. William Eliasen of Greene.
He was preceded in death by his wife, one grandson, his parents and one sister.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Furhman Funeral Home, Rev. H. Allen Wirtz officiating. Burial will be in the East Side Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 9 a.m. Tuesday until time of services Wednesday. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, September 30, 1968)
