ESTHERVILLE - Funeral services for Zelma Peta, 87, of Estherville will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Estherville with Pastor Paul Wiegman officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday at Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville. Interment will be at East Side Cemetery in Estherville.
She died Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Zelma Lucille (Patten) Peta, the daughter of Jake and Elizabeth (Dotson) Patten, was born Jan. 10, 1924, in Gillett Grove.
She received her education at Lake Center and Sioux Rapids schools.
On Sept. 20, 1940, she was united in marriage to John Peta in Storm Lake. Following their marriage, the couple farmed in South Dakota, before moving to Spirit Lake where they farmed for eight years. They moved to Estherville in 1960, to make their home permanently. Zelma was a homemaker. In her leisure time Zelma enjoyed cooking for her family, doing crossword puzzles and socializing with others. She was well known for always wanting her hair to look nice. Her greatest pleasure in life was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. After her health began to fail, she made her home at Hilltop Care Center in Spirit Lake. She was always very appreciative of the loving care that she received there. John died Feb. 14, 1985.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Estherville where she belonged to the morning circle, Estherville VFW Post 3388 Auxiliary and RSVP.
Left to cherish Zelma's memory are her children, Clifford Peta and his wife, Jean, Lonnie Peta and his wife, Jacque, Roger Peta and his wife, Connie, Galen Peta and his wife, Vicki, Deb Weir and her husband, Jeff, and Jon Peta, all of Estherville; 12 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Irene Nelson, and her husband, Clifford, of Rapid City, S.D. and many nieces and nephews.
She has been preceded in death by her husband; parents; one daughter, Lois Peta; grandson, Jeremy Weir; three brothers, Harry, Roy and Jake and seven sisters, Daisy, Arilla, Arvella, Sylvia, Elva, Bertha and Goldie. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, October 28, 2011)
