Prominent Lady and Husband Pass Away
Mr. and Mrs. C.J. Wilson Die Within a Week; Lived Here 23 Years.
Mrs. C.J. [Anna J.] Wilson, socially one of the most prominent and most dearly beloved women of Estherville passed away at her home early Saturday morning after a long illness of pernicious anemia. Mrs. Wilson was born at Waverly, Penn., daughter of Smith and Maria Green Dean. For 23 years she made her home here with her husband who was for a number of years superintendent of this division of the Rock Island.

Besides her husband she is survived by her sister, Mrs. Nellie Smith of Minneapolis, who was with her during her last illness and a brother, John Dean of Seattle, Wash.

Short prayer services were held Sunday afternoon at four o’clock from the homes. Mesdames M. M. Knapp, Alex Johnston, G.A. Lyon, M.K. Whelen, H.S. Greig, H.C. Brees, A.J. Rhodes, G.H. Woodhouse, P.A. Davies and E.W. Bachman, close friends of the deceased lady acted as honorary pall bearers. The active pall bearers were Alex Johnston, M.K. Whelen, H.C. Brees, E.W. Knight, A.J. Rhodes and J.E. Stockdale.

The body was taken to St. Paul Monday by Henry Mahlum and interment was made in Oakland cemetery. Short services were held at three o’clock on Monday afternoon. A.J. Rhode, M.K. Whelen, Rev. P.A. Davis, Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Lyon and daughter Miss Virginia went to St. Paul for the services. Mr. Wilson is ill and was unable to make the journey.

Quiet and home loving to a marked degree, Mrs. Wilson was a true lady in every respect. Her passing is mourned by scores in Estherville who knew her as a kind and considerate friend, as well as by her husband to whom she had been a devoted companion, and her sister and brother. Funeral Held Sunday
Funeral services for Mrs. C.J. Wilson, who died Saturday, were held at the home Sunday in charge of the Rev. P.A. Davies, pastor of the Presbyterian church. Monday the body was taken to St. Paul, where burial was made in Oakland cemetery.

Anna Gertrude Wilson was born Sept. 22, 1858, at Waverly, Pa. At the age of 14 years she came to Worthington, Minn.

Mrs. Wilson is survived by a sister, Mrs. Nellie D. Smith of Estherville, and one brother, John Smith Dean of Tacoma, Wash.

To to St. Paul
Those from Estherville who accompanied the body to St. Paul are Mrs. Smith, A.J. Rhodes, M.K. Whelen, the Rev. P.A. Davies, Mrs. G.A. Lyon and Miss Virginia Lyon.

Active pallbearers were Alex Johnston, M.K. Whelen, H.C. Brees, E.W. Knight, A.J. Rhodes, and J.E. Stockdale. Honorary pallbearers were Mrs. M.M. Knapp, Mrs. Mable Johnston, Mrs. G.A. Lyon, Mrs. M.K. Whelan, Mrs. H.S. Greig, Mrs. H.C. Brees, Mrs. A.J. Rhodes, Mrs. G.H. Woodhouse, Mrs. P.A. Davies, Mrs. E.W. Knight, and Mrs. E.W. Bachman. (Estherville News, Estherville, IA, July 11, 1929)
