Estherville – Services for Kermit D. [Dean] Mortenson, 52, of Estherville, will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Estherville Lutheran Church with Pastor Arlyn Norris and Pastor Arlyn Norris and Pastor Jane Johnston officiating. Interment will be in East Side Cemetery, Estherville with military graveside services by V.F.W. Post #3388 and American Legion Post 91 both of Estherville. He died Wednesday, February 19, 1997 at Holy Family Hospital, Estherville.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.

He was born April 22, 1934 at Estherville, the son of Victor and Edith (Nelson) Mortenson. He attended and graduated from Estherville School. Also attended Estherville Junior College. Following his discharge from the United States Air Force, he was employed by Golden Sun Feeds in Estherville. In 1960 he began working for John Morrell and Co. in Estherville and continued to work there until the plant ceased operation. Following the Plant closing he worked for the Estherville School System as custodian for several years. He was a member of the Estherville Lutheran Church and the Elks Lodge in Estherville.

Survivors include sisters: Lorraine Mortenson, Estherville and Dorothy Bringle, Sacramento, Calif.; brothers, Kenneth of Mexico, Mo. and Victor of Sioux Falls, S.D., special daughters: Julie Ackerly, Dallas, Texas and Liz Dalber, Harrison, N.Y., nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister and one brother-in-law. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 22, 1997)
