Alice Mathison
Estherville – Memorial service for Alice Mathison, 95, of Estherville, will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at First Christian Church with interment in East Side Cemetery, Estherville. She died Monday, Dec. 16, 1996 at Rosewood Manor Care Center in Estherville where she has lived since April 23, 1990.

There will be no visitation prior to services. Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

She was born June 4, 1901 at Superior, the daughter of Austin and Emmaline (Brown) Jones. She attended Estherville School. She lived various places in Iowa, Minnesota and California and at Omaha, Neb. before moving back to Estherville. She also worked at Soo Valley Co. and did housekeeping and daysitting for several families. Dec. 23, 1947 she married Theodore Mathison at Estherville. He died in 1972. She was affiliated with the First Christian Church in Estherville.

Survivors include nieces Frances Oman of Willmar, Minn. and Marium Buer of Atwater, Minn.; Nephews Charles Jones, Florida and Berton Lind of Minneapolis; several grand nieces and nephews; nine foster grand nieces and nephews; Norma Beaver, Doug Anderson, Leo Anderson, Larry Anderson, Linda Brown and foster nephew-in-law Lars Anderson, all of Estherville; Leota Hall, Butterfield, Minn.; Ellen White, Flower Mound, Texas; Ruth Tobin, Lewisville, Minn. and Nancy Kautz, Buford, Georgia.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, two brothers and a foster niece, Olive Anderson. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, December 17, 1996)
