Orlando Martyr
Estherville – Orlando J. [John] Martyr, 91, died Friday, March 19, 1999 at Good Samaritan Center in Estherville. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

He was born in Estherville, Aug. 26, 1907, the son of Paul and Jennette (Lingenfelter) Martyr. He received his education in the Estherville schools, graduating from high school here. On July 18, 1933, he was united in marriage to Nora Nelson in Spirit Lake. Following marriage they made their home in Estherville, where he was employed in the family restaurant in Estherville for 25 years. Orlando was then employed as an office manager at Hill Packing Co. in Estherville until 1962 when he moved with the company to Yelm Washington where he worked for several years. He later served as the City Clerk at Yelm until his retirement. The couple returned to Estherville in 1988. He has been a resident of Good Samaritan Care Center in Estherville since July 2, 1996. He was a member of First Christian Church and North Star Masonic Lodge, both of Estherville.

He is survived by his sister, Tamam Wilson, of Estherville; adopted son George Martyr and wife Elayne, Northfield, Minn.; grandson Mark Martyr and wife Maryanne, Estherville; grandson Stephen Martyr and wife Elizabeth, Eagan, Minn.; four great-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one great-great-grandchild; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, who died Nov. 24, 1990, parents, one brother, one sister and one brother-in-law. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 20, 1999)
