William Loftis
Estherville – Services for William Wilson Loftis, 70, Spirit Lake and formerly of Estherville, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Paul Wiegman officiating. Interment will be in East Side Cemetery. He died Sunday, August 23, 1987 at the Good Samaritan Center.Friends may call at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville from 4-9 p.m. Wednesday.
He was born February 16, 1917 at Brigman, Minn., the son of Patrick and Mary (Manning) Loftis and attended Brigman Schools. He moved to the Estherville area in 1940 and did farm work in the Huntington area before going to work for the Tobin Packing Co. On July 25, 1969 he was united in marriage with Caroline Gosch at Sioux Falls, S.D. He worked for John Morrell & Co. for 36 years until his retirement in 1979. The couple spent their summers at East Okoboji and winters in Arizona. He was a Lifetime member of the Moose Lodge and a social member of the VFW.
Survivors include two sons: Jim Loftis, Estherville; Gordon Gosch, Red Feather Lake, Colo.; three daughters: Mrs. Clifford (Jean) Peta, Estherville; Mrs. Jerry (Edna) Payne, Iowa Falls and Wanda Huffman Spirit Lake; 17 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; two brothers: Patrick, San Bernardino, Calif. and Lawrence Kellogg, Ida.; five sisters: Mrs. Nellie Hazuka and Mrs. Margaret Davenport, Motley, Minn., Mrs. Joe (Cecilia) Scandin, Duluth, Minn.; Mrs. Melvin (Betty) Rosevink, San Bernardino, Calif., and Mrs. Paul (Kathryn) Irafeld, Breckenridge, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sept. 21, 1985; parents; six brothers and one sister. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, August 26, 1987)
