Charles Shaw, who resided three miles southwest of Gruver, died at six o’clock last Wednesday [August 30, 1905] evening. He had been ailing more than a year, diabetes being the cause of his death. He was forty years of age and leaves a wife and four children. The funeral services were held on Friday. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, September 6, 1905)
Charlie Shaw died at his home near Ryan Lake last Wednesday night. The funeral was held at the M.E. church on Friday afternoon. A large crowd was in attendance. The family have the sympathy of a very large circle of friends.

An Old Fashioned Husking Bee
There will be an old-fashioned husking bee on the farm of Mrs. C.L. Shaw near Ryan lake, Thursday, of this week. The ladies are to bring the dinners and come prepared for a merry time. There are lots of red ears this year and the men are expected to find every one in the field. This bee is gotten up by the neighbors of Mrs. Shaw, for her benefit and it is hoped that everybody, who can will come out and have a good time as well as to help a very deserving lady.
