John Lane, Jr.
Wallingford – Services for John W. Lane, Jr., 67, of Wallingford, will be held Saturday at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home with the Rev. Julie Poore-Christensen of Graettinger United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in East Side Cemetery, Estherville with military graveside rites by VFW Post 3388 and American Legion Post 91, both of Estherville. He died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 1993 at McKennan Hospital, Sioux Falls, S.D.He was born Nov. 23, 1925 at Armstrong, the son of John Sr. and Minnie (Hill) Lane, and attended Armstrong School. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II, after which he farmed west of Armstrong until 1965. He then worked at Arts-Way Mfg. until 1967 when he started working at John Morrell & Co. in Estherville where he worked until retiring in 1983. The family has lived south of Ingham Lake since 1973.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Graettinger and VFW Post 3388, Estherville.
Survivors include his wife, Donna, of Wallingford; daughters Melissa Lane, Sioux Falls and Monica Lane, Cherokee; sons: Kevin, LuVerne, Minn. and Kerry of Sioux Falls; nine grandchildren; one brother, Edgar Lane, Clarksville; three sisters: Rosie Smith, Estherville; Mrs. Glen (Tressa) Wheeler, Minot, N.D. and Pearl Zitterich, Estherville; and his mother-in-law, Martha Long, Fairmont.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Alva Vigdahl. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 13, 1993)
