Estherville – Services for Verna Alice King, 87, of Estherville, will be held Wednesday, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Estherville, with Rev. David Wendel officiating. Interment will be in East Side Cemetery in Estherville. She died January 23, 1994 at Rosewood Manor Care Center.Friends may call at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m.
She was born July 22, 1906 in Reddick, Illinois, the daughter of Fred and Lulu (Alderson) Hamilton and received her education in Fenton schools and graduated from Emmetsburg. On October 19, 1927 she was united in marriage with Joseph King in Fenton. Vernon and Joseph lived in the Fenton area until 1940 when they moved to Estherville. Verna worked as a waitress in several cafes in Estherville and also at Holy Family Hospital for 16 years as a nurses’ aide. She lived at Breezy Acres Apartments before entering Rosewood. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Estherville.
Survivors include three sons: Dale and Wayne King of Estherville, Gary King of Wichita, Kansas; two daughters: Mrs. Tom (Phyllis) Fraser of Storm King and Mrs. Don (Betty) Kafer of Emmetsburg; 22 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert Hamilton of Marion, Ohio; four sisters: Mrs. Lotus Riester and Shirley Louck of Marion, Ohio; Mrs. Ray (Virginia) Bosley of Morrel, Ohio and Mrs. Don (Arlene) Christensen of Algona.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband who died February 26, 1974, one sister and 3 brothers. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, January 24, 1994)
