Marshalltown – Funeral services for Mae [Jeanette] Huntley, 97, of Marshalltown will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 5 at the First Presbyterian Church in Ringsted with Ron Brink CLP officiating. Interment will be held at Swan Lake Township Cemetery in Gruver. She died on Monday, Oct. 1, 2001 at Bickford Cottage Assisted Living in Marshalltown

Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. today at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.

Mae was born on Oct. 17, 1903 in Gruver, the daughter of Theodore and Tena (Knudson) Wold. She began her education in the country schools. She moved to Cedar Rapids and attended high school, while living with an aunt and uncle.

She moved back and graduated from Estherville High School and Norman Training in 1921. Mae then taught in Emmet County for six years, with three of those years in the Blagg School.

On Jan. 1, 1927, she was united in marriage to Clifford Huntley in Iowa Falls. They farmed in the Halfa area with the exception of four years in the Ringsted area. Mae was a teacher’s aide in the Armstrong schools for six years.

In 1979 they sold their farm and lived in Gilman in the summer and Apache Junction, Ariz. in the winters. Mr. Huntley passed away on Oct. 18, 1985. She continued to winter in Arizona and in 1993, she lived in Mesa, Ariz. with her daughter, Beverly during the winter and with her daughter, Jeanette in Gilman during the summer. In June of 1993 she moved into the Bickford Cottage, an assisted living center in Marshalltown.

Mae was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Ringsted and was active in UPW. She was an assistant 4-H leader and a member of the Rebekah Lodge. Mae enjoyed playing cards, reading and loved dancing with her husband.

Mae is survived by two daughters, Jeanette McDowell and her husband, Wavern of Gilman and Beverly Beaver and her husband, James of Spirit Lake; four grandsons, Tom Hoien and his wife, Mary of Columbia, Minn., Tim Hoien of Brooklyn, Terry Christiansen and his wife, Barb of Detroit Lakes, Minn., and Robert Beaver and his wife, Paula of Estherville; three granddaughters, Teresa Hoien of Sugar Hill, Ga., Patty Freedman and her husband, Paul of Mesa and Becky Beaver of North Brookfield, Mass.; 15 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, three sisters and one great grandson. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, October 4, 2001)
