Armstrong – Services for Mae Place, 72, of Armstrong will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Ringsted. Interment will be in Swan Lake Twp. Cemetery near Maple Hill. She died Friday, March 21, 1997 at Lakeview Methodist Home at Fairmont, Minn.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Mon. March 24 at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Ringsted. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 22, 1997)

Mae Place
Armstrong – Funeral services for Mae Place, 72, of Armstrong will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tues., March 25, 1997 at the First Presbyterian Church in Ringsted with the Rev. John Werth and the Rev. Edwin Silrum officiating. Interment will be held at Swan Lake Township Cemetery, rural Gruver. She died on Fri., March 21, 1997 at Lakeview Methodist Home in Fairmont, Minn.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. today, Mon., March 24 at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Ringsted.

She was born on May 1, 1924 in Cylinder, the daughter of Theodore and Sadie Columbia (Naig) Meling. She was raised in the rural Cylinder area and received her education in the rural Palo Alto County Schools, graduating from Emmetsburg High School in 1943. After graduation, she attended and graduated from the Waterloo School of Beauty Culture. She returned to Emmetsburg, where she owned Gordon’s Beauty Shop. She was united in marriage to Robert William Place on Nov. 10, 1946 in Depew. After their marriage, they lived and operated farms in the Emmetsburg and Armstrong areas. They spent recent winter seasons in Mesa, Ariz. She has been a resident at the Lakeview Methodist Health Care Center in Fairmont, Minn. since October 2, 1996.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the UPW in Ringsted. She was a member of the Thursday Club and the Birthday Club.

She is survived by her husband, Robert of Armstrong, a daughter, Corrine Place of Salt Lake City, Utah; a son, Allen Place of Hampton; three grandchildren: Ingrid, Eric and Brett; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Duane Meling of Cylinder; two sisters, Mrs. Bill (Clarice) McFadden of Desert Springs, Calif.; and Mrs. Roger (Myrna) Foley of Algona.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one grandson, one brother and two sisters. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 24, 1997)
