Estherville – Services for Lucile Johnson, 82, of Estherville, will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church South of Gruver with Pastor Jack Torgerson officiating. Interment will be in Swan Lake Cemetery, south of Gruver. She died Monday, Feb. 19, 1996 at Marion Health Center in Sioux City.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.

She was born Nov. 28, 1913 at Oshkosh, Wis., the daughter of Clyde and Lena (Weage) Leeson. She became a teacher and taught in Maryville, Mo. school. On Feb. 4, 1940 she was united in marriage with Ralph Johnson in Los Angeles. As her husband was in the navy, the family lived in many places: Long Beach and Richmond, Calif.; Portsmouth, Va.; Port Angeles, Wash.; Fort Des Moines, Denison and Ottumwa. The family took up residence in his hometown when he retired from the navy in 1958. She had served as organist for Ryan Lake Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church south of Gruver; was active in Iowa Lakes Community College Woman’s Club; sponsor for the Iowa Young Mothers of Estherville. She was an active member and served as adjutant of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary, officer in Estherville Federated Garden Club; hostess at Emmet Co. Historical Society Museum and volunteer for Crisis Line and Good Samaritan Center in Estherville.

Survivors include a daughter, Joyce Kibby, Cincinnati, Ohio; three grandchildren; Pamela Swope, Bowling Green, Ohio; Steven Kibby, Peoria, Ill and Kristen Kibby, Ann Arbor, Mich.; two great grandchildren; a sister Bea Chenoweth of Santa Maria, Calif., nieces, grand-nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph, Dec. 7, 1984. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 22, 1996)
