Spirit Lake – Services for Orville A. Gjerde, 79, of Spirit Lake, formerly of Estherville, will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Spirit Lake with the Rev. Walter Hamer officiating. Interment will be in Swan Lake Cemetery, rural Gruver. He died Wednesday, May 17, 1995 at McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D. Turner Funeral Home of Spirit Lake is in charge of arrangements.

He was born Sept. 18, 1915 at Woden, the son of Ole and Anna (Bruc) Gjerde. He was united in marriage with Gladys Berven on May 30, 1942 in Wallingford. He farmed his entire life at rural Estherville, before retiring at age 69. In 1973 the couple moved to Spirit Lake. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Spirit Lake; past church council member and member of the Gideons.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys, of Spirit Lake; a daughter, Mrs. Phillip (Carolyn) Larson of Winona, Minn.; sons: Dennis of Estherville; Glenn of Spirit Lake; and Larry of Okoboji; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Gladys Robinson of Forest City.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter; four brothers and three sisters. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, May 20, 1995)
