Dies on Visit at Son’s Home
Fred Grippentrog [Gripentrog] died Sunday [June 12, 1932] at the Gus Knutson home near Estherville following a paralytic stroke. Mr. Knutson is the adopted son of the deceased man who was but 60 years old at the time of his passing. Funeral services are being held this afternoon at the Ryan Lake church and interment will be made in the Swan Lake cemetery. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, June 15, 1932)

Obituary
Funeral services at the Immanuel church for the last Fred Grippentrog were conducted this Wednesday, June 15th by the pastor of the congregation, Rev. Peder Nordsletten of Wallingford.

Mr. Fred Grippentrog was born at Karka, in Pennern, Germany, on April 18, 1871. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He was married on Oct. 15, 1897 to Miss Augusta Velekt. As a young sturdy couple they immigrated to America and located at Sheldon, Iowa. Shortly after their arrival to this country, Mrs. Grippentrog passed away and was laid to rest in Sheldon. Since then Mr. Grippentrog has lived mostly in the vicinity of Watertown, S.D.

Six weeks prior to his death Mr. Grippentrog came to visit his two sons, Gus and Fred. It was while he was visiting the Gus Knutson family that Mr. Grippentrog was smitten with apoplexy while out in the field on Friday, June 10th. Two days later he succumbed to death. In the presence of many of his relatives and a goodly number of his neighbors and friends of the Gus Knutson family Mr. Grippentrog was laid to rest in the Swan Lake cemetery near Maple Hill. The following served as pallbearers: R. S. Bryon, H.G. Hanson, George Berven, Willis Wertz, B.C. Janssen and Albert Bettin.

The deceased at death was 61 years, 1 month and 24 days old.

He leaves to mourn his departure, besides his two sons, his aged mother, Mrs. Wilhelmina Grippentrog of Stranburg, S. Dak.; four sisters, Mrs. Tena Waege of South Shore, S.Dak., Mrs. Bereha Gehrke, Beaver Creek, Minn.; Mrs. Marie Warnke, South Shore, S. Dak.; Mrs. Anna Ziegler, Sioux Falls, S. Dak. He is also survived by three brothers, August of Idaho, William of Sioux Falls, S. Dak., and Fred of Strandburg, S. Dak. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, June 22, 1932)
