Graettinger – Services for Howard Alfred Hanson, 80, will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church in Graettinger with Pastor Paul Fohs officiating. Interment will be in Swan Lake Cemetery, rural Gruver. He died Monday, May 4, 1992 at Holy Family Hospital.Friends may call at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Graettinger after 3 p.m. Wednesday.
He was born Dec. 22, 1911 at Estherville, the son of Hans and Mary (Petersen) Hanson and attended Maple Hill High School, later attended Iowa State Teachers College at Cedar Falls. On Feb. 5, 1933 he married Lillian Anderson at Sioux Falls, S.D. The couple farmed in Emmet County before moving to a farm near East Chain, Minn. and later returned to Emmet County and moved into Graettinger in 1962. He also drove a gas truck for Torreson Oil Co. and later worked for the Graettinger School District as a bus driver.
He was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church where he served on the church council, also served on the Graettinger City Council.
Survivors include his wife Lillian of Graettinger; two sons Harvey of Estherville and Harlan of Orlando, Fla; one daughter, Mary Alice Raffety, Fort Wayne, Ind.; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, May 6, 1992)
