Death at 50 for Johnson After Attack
Lowell Johnson, 50, well-known Estherville contractor, died early today of a sudden heart attack.

Mr. Johnson had been supervising a plastering contact in Fort Dodge and had retired for the night at a motel there when stricken with the fatal attack. An ambulance was summoned, but Mr. Johnson was pronounced dead upon arrival at a Fort Dodge hospital.

Lowell Wayne Johnson was born Dec. 23, 1915, in Vincent, Minn., the son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Johnson. He moved with his parents and their family to a farm north of Gruver when a young boy. He received his elementary and high school education in Gruver.

He was married Aug. 19, 1939, to Jennie Halvorson [Halverson] in Estherville. After their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Johnson farmed for a few years and then moved to Estherville. At that time he started a plastering business and since had become well-known throughout the state of Iowa as a contractor, doing a great deal of work in the Fort Dodge area.

He was a member of the Estherville Redeemer Lutheran Church, Masonic Lodge, the B.P.O. Elks and the Fort Dodge Chamber of Commerce.

He is survived by his wife: a daughter, Mrs. Bernard (Janice) Reuland of Omaha, Neb.; three sons, Wayne, David and Gregg; a grandson, Brian Reuland; his father and four sisters Mrs. Purl Partello of Estherville, Mrs. Henry Schaper of Mesa, Ariz., Mrs. Raymond Gilbert of Algona and Mrs. Helen Verhines of Los Angeles.

Funeral services are to be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Redeemer Lutheran Church, Rev. Harley Schmitt officiating. Burial will be in the East Side Cemetery. A family service will be at 10:30 a.m. at Fuhrman Funeral Home.

Friends may call at the funeral home all day Friday until the body is moved to the church about noon Saturday to lie in state until time of services. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, May 5, 1966)
