Estherville – Funeral services for Jane Johnson, 51, of Estherville will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 4 at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Estherville with Pastor Jack Peterson officiating. Interment will be held at East Side Cemetery, Estherville. She died on Sunday, October 1 at McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, October 3 at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.

She was born on January 28, 1944, in Hudson, S.D., the daughter of Floyd and Mabelle (Hagen) L arson. She was baptized on March 5, 1944 and confirmed on October 12, 1958 at the Canton Lutheran Church. She attended school at the Augustana Academy in Canton, S.D. and graduated from Inwood High School in 1962. She attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D. from 1962-1964. She later received her bachelor’s degree from Buena Vista College in 1982.

She was united in marriage to Philip Johnson on July 3, 1964 at the Canton Lutheran Church in Canton. After the couple’s marriage, they made their home in Sioux Falls. They moved to Belmond in 1967. The couple then moved to Glenwood in 1974, before moving to Estherville in 1975. She worked for the Estherville Middle School Library for four years and then attained her bachelor’s degree. Since February of 1982 to the present, she was the Assistant Director of Library Services at the Estherville Public Library. She also was a substitute teacher for the Estherville Community schools for many years.

She was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church where she was active in the Lydia Church Circle. She also was a member of the Iowa Library Association. She was a supporter of Friends of the Library. She did volunteer work as an Adult Basic Education Instructor at the Rosewood Manor Care Center.

She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Brad (Cyndi) Johnson of Lake Park, Minn.; two sons, Rick Johnson of Litchfield, Minn.; Daron Johnson, of Fairmont, Minn. four grandchildren; her mother of Canton, S.D.; and one sister, Joloyce Falgren of Austin, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her father. (Estherville Spirit, Estherville, IA, October 3, 1995)
