Bruce F. Hoien
Estherville – Services for Bruce F. Hoien, 77, of Estherville, will be held Wednesday, February 2, at 1:30 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Estherville, with Rev. Dr. Michael Thiel officiating. Interment will be in East Side Cemetery, Estherville. He died January 29, 1994 at the Holy Family Hospital.

Friends may call at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m.

He was born June 27, 1916 in Halfa, Iowa, the son of Jim and Edna (Fuller) Hoien and received his education in Maple Hill High School. He also attended Iowa State Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls where he obtained his teacher’s certificate. On April 24, 1942 he was united in marriage with Melba Foster in Estherville. Bruce taught country school near Armstrong for a time. He also worked at John Morrell & Co. in Estherville for 32 years until his retirement in 1974. He was a member of the First Christian Chuch in Estherville.

Survivors include his wife: Melba; three daughters: Mrs. Don (Kathy) Sawatzky of Janesville, Wisconsin; Mrs. Bill (Nancy) Beck of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and Mrs. Duane (Patricia) Dalen of Decatur, Illinois; two sons, Steven B. Hoien of Estherville; and James Hoien of Gandview, Missouri; 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and an infant sister. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, January 31, 1994)
