Estherville – Services for Blanch S. Baker, 86, of Estherville will be held Thursday, 2 p.m. at Calvary Gospel Assembly with the Rev. Donald Erlitz officiating. Interment will be in East Side Cemetery. She died Monday, March 10, 1997 at Holy Family Hospital.Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.
She was born July 29, 1910 at St. Charles, Iowa, the daughter of Lee and Nettie (Redmon) Smith. Her mother died when she was a small girl and she was raised by her stepparents William and Mary Wilson in Winterset. She attended Winterset School graduating in 1927 from high school. She married Snowden Baker Feb. 20, 1928 at Creston. After marriage, the couple moved to Estherville in 1937 and farmed many years. She was a member of Calvary Gospel Assembly in Estherville.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Claron (Marvel) Houge; sons: Phillip Baker, Minneapolis, Richard Baker of Ogden, Utah, Carroll Baker of Dickens and Gailen [?] Baker of Darby, Mont.; 25 grandchildren and 55 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband who died Jan. 19, 1969; parents; step-parents and five step-brothers. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 11, 1997)
