Estherville – Memorial service for Palmer E. [Edgar] (Polly) Frettem, 93, Estherville, will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Henry-Olson-Furhman Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark Gabbard officiating. Interment will be in East Side Cemetery, Estherville. He died April 7, 1997 at Rosewood Manor Care Center in Estherville.There will be no visitation.
He was born June 6, 1903 in Kenyon, Minn. the son of Albert and Engeborg (Endrews) Frettem. He received his education in the Zunbarta Schools graduating from high school there. He attended Iowa State University after high school. After college, Polly went to Gowrie where he managed the creamery. In September of 1929 the couple moved to Graettinger where they lived the next four years managing the Graettinger Creamery. In 1933 he went to Estherville Coop Creamery serving from 1934 until August, 1946. He then bought a daily in Clear Lake and sold out to Marigold in Jan., 1950. April 1, 1952 he became manager of the Clear Lake plant and in 1952 the couple moved back to Estherville where he remained until his retirement. During his Creamery management and buttermaking years, he won numerous prizes and recognition in the dairy industry. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Masons and Shriners.
Survivors include his wife, Mildred [Mildred Wilday] of Estherville, daughter, Mary Ann Eaton, Estherville; grandchildren: Tom Eaton, Estherville and Cynthia Voster, Spencer; five great-grandchildren: Angela and Alyssa Voster, April Moffitt, Josh and Tricia Eaton; one brother, Albert Frettem, Redwin, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, April 23, 1997)
