Services for Conrad Fogde at Graettinger
Funeral services for Conrad Fogde, 60, longtime resident of the Graettinger community, who died Friday morning, Dec. 30 in Holy Family Hospital at Estherville from a heart attack suffered a week previous, were held at First Lutheran church at Graettinger Monday. The pastor, the Rev. Paul G. Tolo, officiated. Burial was in East Side cemetery at Estherville. The Graettinger American Legion post color guard was present at the services.Pallbearers were Ed Herke, Ora Brown, Rolfe Lundgren, Thad Wheeler, Frank Christensen, Frans Swanson, Alfred McCombs, Ed Bradley, Charles Burg and Henry Wobbe. The Martin Funeral home was in charge of arrangements.
Conrad Alfred Fogde was born February 21, 1895, at Nunda, S.D. He moved to the Graettinger community with his parents when he was a child. On Aug. 27, 1931 he married Hazel Tow at Canton, S.D. Survivors include his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Kenneth Neilson (Pauline) of near Graettinger, and Mavis Fogde of Onawa, three brothers, Henry of Estherville, Arthur of Springfield, Ill., and Myron of Graettinger; two sisters, Mrs. Jorgen Anderson (Mary) and Miss Bertha Fogde, both of Graettinger, and three grandchildren.
Mr. Fogde served in the army during World War I. He was an infantryman in the 35th division, 140th Infantry, Company K, and was honorably discharged from the service on May 7, 1919. (Emmetsburg Reporter, Emmetsburg, IA, January 10, 1956)
