Death of Former Estherville Man
A.N. Coverdale Passed Away at Lake Port, California, on December 28th
Genessee (Ill.) News:
The funeral of A.N. Coverdale, who passed away at his home at Lake Port, California, Sunday, Dec. 28, 1924, was held from the Federated church on Sunday, Jan. 3, Rev. W.B. Anderson, pastor of the church officiating.Albert Newton Coverdale was born at Estherville, Iowa, March 22, 1861, and passed away Dec. 28, 1924, making him 63 years, 9 months and 6 days of age at the time of his death, the direct cause of death being cancer of the liver.
Mr. Coverdale moved with his parents [Jesse and Roena Coverdale] from Iowa to Bickleton, Wash., in the fall of 1883, where they resided about four years, coming to the Genesee section in 1887, and he had been a resident of this community from that time until 1920, when he removed to California with the exception of two or three years spent in Moscow.
He had been in ill health for the past several years, and the move to California was made in the hopes that the climate would benefit him, but later other complications developed which resulted in his death. Besides his wife, his brother, John Coverdale, was with him at the time of his death, John having left for California immediately upon receipt of news of his brother’s severe illness.
Mr. Coverdale was not a member of any church or lodge, so far as known, but his life has been an open book and he was beloved and honored by all who knew him, and his friends were many in this section where he had lived an upright life for so many years. His passing is universally mourned.
Besides his widow he leaves to mourn his loss four brothers and one sister: John E. and Jesse of Genesee; Mrs. Al. Whitted of Sweetwater, Idaho; George of Yakima, Wash., and Charles of Genesse, and two stepsons, Lester and William Dart, both of whom reside in California. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, January 14, 1925)
