Former Estherville Resident Killed in Michigan Crash
Big Rapids, Mich. – A former Estherville resident was killed early Monday morning near this west-central Michigan community as a result of a single-vehicle accident that involved four area residents.According to a report from the Mecosta County Sheriff’s Department, Rochelle Cavanugh, 26, of Sioux Falls, formerly of Estherville, died after she was thrown from a vehicle driven by Susan Cornwall Fletcher, 27, of Spencer, at approximately 6:45 a.m. Monday on the U.S. Route 131 Expressway near Big Rapids.
She was ejected from the vehicle after it slid on the snow and slush covered roadway, skidded onto the berm and rolled over three times, coming to rest on its roof.
The driver of the vehicle and her husband, Clayton Fletcher, 27, also of Spencer were transported to a local hospital where they were treated for minor injuries.
Two other occupants of the vehicle, Miles Fletcher, 1, of Spencer and Michael Cornwall, 25, of Estherville, Cavanaugh’s fiancé, were reported uninjured. The group was traveling to visit a relative.
Deputies at the scene reported that all of the vehicle’s occupants except Cavanaugh were wearing seat belts. An investigation of the accident is continuing.
The funeral for Cavanaugh, a 1987 graduate of Estherville High School, will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 14, at the United Methodist Church in Estherville. Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, April 12, 1995)

Estherville – Services for Rochelle Rae Cavanaugh, 26, of Sioux Falls and formerly of Estherville, will be held Friday, April 14 at 2 p.m. at the United Methodist Church with Rev. Larry Willey officiating. Interment will be held at East Side Cemetery, Estherville. She died Monday, April 10 in Big Rapids, Mich.Visitation will be held from 3-9 p.m. Thursday, April 13 at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.
She was born January 16, 1969 in Estherville, the daughter of Howard and Janet (Peterson) Cavanaugh and received her education in the Estherville schools graduating in 1987. She then attended Spencer School of Business. After graduating from college, she moved to Sioux Falls and was employed by Midland National Life. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Estherville.
She is survived by her parents of Estherville; her fiancé, Michael Cornwall of Estherville; four sisters, Mrs. Ron (Cindy) Moore of Estherville; Mrs. Jeff (Sherri) Moe of Minneapolis, Minn.; Kelly Cavanaugh of Sioux Falls; Mrs. Al (Krista) Doering of Good Thunder, Minn.; a twin-sister, Mrs. Greg (Rhonda) Oleson of Armstrong; one grandmother, Pearl Maycroft of Audubon; and also many nieces and nephews.
