Estherville – Funeral services for Dale Carlson, 75, of Estherville will be held at 10:30 am. On Monday, Dec. 3 at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Chapel in Estherville with Pastor Jack Peterson officiating. Interment will be held at East Side Cemetery in Estherville with full military graveside rites by the VFW Post 3388, American Legion Post 91 and AMVETS Post 3391, all of Estherville. He died on Thurday, Nov. 29, 2001 at Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 2 at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.

Dale was born on Jan. 13, 1926 in Dunnell, Minn., the son of Axel Russell and Nellie Pearl (Gimmel) Carlson. He received his education in the Estherville schools, graduating from Estherville High School.

Dale enlisted in the United States Navy and served during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He was awarded the purple heart on Dec. 10, 1944.

After his discharge he returned to Estherville. Dale was employed by the State Conservation Commission and later Gamble Robinson Company as a salesman. He later was employed as a salesman for a foot wear company for many years. He retired in 1982 because of health reasons.

Dale attended the United Methodist Church in Spirit Lake. He was a member of the VFW Post 3388 and American Legion Post 91 in Estherville.

Dale is survived by two daughters, Jackie Thompson and her husband, Kevin of Longview, Texas and Coleen Peterson of Longview; grandchildren, Steven and Sara Thompson of Longview; two grandsons, Paul Peterson and his wife, Tara of Mankato, Minn. and Andy Honsey of Minneapolis, Minn.; one great grandchild, Seth Peterson of Mankato and one sister, Loretta Ayers Spoo of Estherville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Jon Dale Carlson; one sister, Eunice Gunderson and one brother, Russell Carlson. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, November 30, 2001)
