Estherville – Services for Elmer Adams, 83, of Estherville who died Tuesday, May 9, 1989 at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D. will be Friday, May 14th at Estherville Lutheran Church. Pastors Kermit Rye and Michael Kroonia will officiate, with burial following the service in East Side Cemetery in Estherville. Family and friends may call at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville today from 3:00 until 9:00 p.m.

Elmer Matthew Adams was born July 17, 1905 in Emmetsburg, Iowa to Andrew and Ann (Galbraith) Adams. He was a graduate of Emmetsburg High School. On May 10, 1936 he married Dorothy Bernice Jeglum in Emmetsburg. Elmer served his county during World War II from 1942-45 in the U.S. Air Corps. He was employed for many years by the Iowa Department of Transportation until he retired in 1968. For many years he operated Adam’s Bike Shop. With the exception of his years of military service, Elmer spent most of his married life in Estherville. He was a member of the Estherville Lutheran Church, VFW Post 3388 and American Legion Post 91.

Survivors include two daughters: Mrs. Duane (Eleanor) Schooley of North Glen, Colo. and Mrs. David (Ruth) Brandt of Sioux Falls, S.D.; two brothers: Andrew J. Adams of Emmetsburg and Leo N. Adams of Port Jefferson, New York and four grandchildren: Lesley and Jonathan Brandt of Sioux Falls, S.D. and Kathlene and Kristine Norris of North Glen, Colo.

He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy on June 8, 1981, his parents and two brothers. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, May 12, 1989)
