Car Rolls Off Bank; 2 Injured
Mrs. A. J. Aalborg Badly Bruised
Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Aalborg and daughter and Mr. and Mrs. P. B. Carter and two children of Fairmont were in a serious accident at 4:30 Sunday afternoon on highway No. 46, eight miles south of Algona a the crossroads for West Bend when the car in which they were riding rolled down a nine foot embankment. Mrs. Aalborg and Mrs. Carter were brought her from the Algona hospital yesterday by ambulance.
Mrs. Aalborg sustained severe bruises about her head, hands and legs. Her daughter, Rose, suffered from a wrenched back. Mrs. Carter’s back was also hurt. It is impossible to tell exactly what the extent of Mrs. Carter’s and Mrs. Aalborg’s injuries. Mr. Aalborg and Mr. Carter and the two Carter children received only minor bruises.

The car, a new four-door Ford sedan, was damaged, the top being wrecked and some of the glass being shattered.

Mr. Aalborg was driving about 5 miles an hour, making a turn at the crossroads when the accident occurred. His foot slipped off the brake and the car suddenly leaped forward and rolled off the embankment. It turned over twice.

2 Estherville Families in Car Accident Sunday
Mistaking the footfeed for the brake while he was trying out his son-in-law’s new car, H. A. [A.J.] Aalborg, Estherville, drove the automobile, a new Ford, over the embankment at a point south of town Sunday afternoon. The car turned over several times before coming to rest.

The car belonged to Paul Carter, Fairmont. Mrs. Aalborg and Mrs. Carter, who were in the car when the accident happened, were brought to the Algona hospital for treatment, and it was found that the latter had a fractured vertebra. They were taken to Estherville in an ambulance. Mr. Aalborg was not hurt, nor were Mr. Carter and two children. (Kossuth County Advance, Algona, IA, June 13, 1929)

Wreck Victim Dies of Shock
Mrs. Aalborg’s Heart Fails Monday
Mrs. A. J. Aalborg died Monday [June 24, 1929] afternoon of heart failure. About two weeks ago she was seriously injured in an automobile accident near Algona and seemed to be recovering satisfactorily. Monday afternoon she sat up awhile and made her way unaided to a chair when suddenly she collapsed from heart failure and died a few minutes after.

Her sudden death after she had apparently passed the critical stage in recovering from the accident is a shock to her family and acquaintances. Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon in the Methodist church, the Rev. R. T. Chipperfield in charge. Burial was in the East Side cemetery.

Born in 1878
Nellie R. Johnson was born at Eagle Grove, Oct. 19, 1878, one of a family of 11 children born to Henry and Susan Johnson. Two brothers and one sister and both of her parents preceded her in death. When she was about three years old her parents moved to Emmet county and settled on a farm, where she grew to womanhood. On Dec. 31, 1896 [December 30, 1897], she was married to Aaron J. Aalborg. They spent their entire married life in this community. Their family consisted of two children, Floyd and Rosella, both of whom are married and now live at Fairmont, Minn.

Mrs. Aalborg was a member of the Norwegian Lutheran church, having been confirmed in that church in her youth. After her marriage she united in the Methodist church. She was a member of the K.K.K. club. Her chief activity was in her home where she always achieved the duties of a homemaker. She was possessed of some native ability as an artist and did some painting. Nature had a strong attraction for her and she loved the out-of-doors.

Much Respected
She was a good wife and a devoted mother. During her recovery she bore her suffering with remarkable patience and her constant thought was of others rather than herself.

In addition to her husband and two children she is survived by two grandchildren, Lavonne and Kenneth Hennemann of Fairmont, Minn., brothers and sisters, Mrs. John Sabo, Mrs. Joe Aalborg, Mrs. Olaf Myhre, and Jacob Johnson, all of Estherville, Mrs. Mike Welde of Colton, S.D., Mrs. Cornelius Welde, Odessa, Mrs. Clara Welde and Julius Johnson of Sioux Falls, S.D. A large number of relatives, many of whom were present at the funeral, also mourn her death. (Estherville News, Estherville, IA, June 27, 1929)
