M. R. Weir, Pioneer, Is Called
Was Taken Ill With Pneumonia While Looking After Canada Farm Interests; Funeral Here
Matt R. Weir, pioneer of Emmet county, died at the home of his son near Macleod, Alberta, Canada, Friday morning [September 22, 1939]. Mr. Weir had gone to that place to look after his land interests there and was taken ill with pneumonia. There are three sons farming near Macleod, Rex, Lloyd and Alfred. The Weirs had lived there for a number of years but returned to the home farm north west of Estherville and resumed farming there several years ago. The sons remained in Canada and one, Harold, farms the home place with his parents. A daughter, Effie, also lives at home. There are three other daughters, Mrs. William Wood, Estherville, Mrs. Fern Alexander, Macleod and Mrs. Karl Regensdorf, Seattle, Wash.

Mr. Weir is survived by the above children, his widow [Effie Jane Snyder Weir] and three brothers, George and Henry of Dunnell and Val of Portland, Oregon.

Funeral services will be held in Estherville Presbyterian church at 2:30 p.m. Thursday and burial will be made in Oak Hill cemetery. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, September 26, 1939)
