Mrs. Weir Was Born Here 91 Years Ago
Mrs. George (Carrie) Weir, 91, was born Dec. 16, 1866, at Estherville, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Simeon Bemis. She died Oct. 19 at her home in Dunnell with death due to the infirmities of old age.

Mrs. Weir received her education in local schools and at Malone, N.Y. She was a former school teacher in this area. A member of the First Presbyterian Church here, she was the oldest living member of it.

Mrs. Weir was married Sept. 3, 1891, to George A. Weir. The couple had moved to Dunnell about 30 years ago where Mr. Weir operated an elevator for a number of years.

Survivors are five sons, Paul, Gene and Don, all of Estherville, Lynn of Huntington and Lee of Plainfield, Ill.; 12 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; one brother, Ernest Bemis of Spirit Lake; and one sister, Miss Hazel Bemis of Estherville.

Funeral services were held Oct. 22 at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, the Rev. James Lyon officiating. Mrs. Robert Weaver of Madison, Wis., sang “The Old Rugged Cross” and “In the Garden.” Robert N. Lee was organist.

Pallbearers for the services are Robert Weir, Georg Weir, Gene Scott, Delbert Ellis, Maurice Larson and Earl Kendle. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, October 25, 1958)
