Estherville – Services for Harmon O. Veldey, 80, will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. John P. Besore, III officiating, interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. He died Thursday, June 7, 1990 at Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He was born Sept. 3, 1909 the son of Henry and Hilda (Gullickson) Veldey and was a graduate of Ortonville, Minn. High School also St. Olaf College at Northfield, Minn. He managed Gamble Stores before moving to Estherville. On July 6, 1933 he married Dolores Simpson at Sisseton, S.D. He owned and operated a ladies ready to wear store in Estherville and also served six years as Emmet County Magistrate.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, a former elder, Member American Legion, VFW, Masonic Lodge and a former member of Rotary. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy from World War II.

Survivors include two sons: John of Marshalltown and Gary of LaCrosse, Wis.; five grandchildren; and one sister Katherine Mier of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 1979; one daughter and parents. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, June 13, 1990)
