Services for John Claus Sytsma, 92, of Spirit Lake, formerly of Jackson, Mn. who died on Wednesday, May 3, 1978 at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital, Spirit Lake, were Saturday at Jackson's United Methodist Church with Rev. Roy M. Harris officiating. Burial was at Oak Hill Cemetery, Estherville.

Survivors include eight daughters; Mrs. John (Violet) Kamrick of Paso Robles, Ca., Helen Davies of Carroll, Ia., Mrs. Bernard (Bernice) Walsh of Spirit Lake, Mrs. Fred (Edith) DeWall of Pocahontas, Mrs. Harold (Ruby) Wier of Estherville, Mrs. Gaylord (Maxine) Foster of Jackson, Mrs. Herman (Annabelle) Halsrud of Estherville and Mrs. John (Opal) Carlson of Trimont; three sons; John Sytsma, Jr. of Greenwood, Wis., Garth and Warren both of Hutchinson, Mn.; two brothers' Daniel and Murray, both of Pella; two sisters; Mary Sytsma of Pella and Mrs. Loren (Elizabeth) Johnson of Osceola; 35 grandchildren; 61 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary in 1960, daughter Bonnie and two grandchildren.

Born May 6, 1886 in Pella to Dan Sytsma and Edith (Nausman) Sytsma, he was married March 28, 1907 in Pella to Mary McCombs. He then farmed in the Jackson area and moved to Spirit Lake about eight years ago. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Jackson. (Spirit Lake Beacon, Spirit Lake, IA, May 11, 1978)

Spirit Lake – John Claus Stysma, 92, of Spirit Lake and formerly of Jackson, died Wednesday at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.

Services for Mr. Stysma will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church, Jackson, with interment in Oak Hill Cemetery, Estherville.

Friends may call at the Sathe and Son Funeral Home, Jackson after 4 p.m. Friday and prior to time of services Saturday morning.

Mr. Stysma was born May 6, 1886, at Pella, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Dan Sytsma. He was married to Mary McCombs on March 28, 1907, at Pella. He farmed in the Jackson, Minn., area until moving to Spirit Lake about eight years ago. He was a member of the Jackson United Methodist Church.

He is survived by eight daughters, Mrs. John (Violet) Kamrick, Pasa Robles, Calif., Helen Davies, Terril, Mrs. Bernard (Bernice) Walsh, Spirit Lake, Mrs. Fred (Edith) DeWall, Pocahontas, Mrs. Harold (Ruby) Weir, Estherville, Mrs. Gaylord (Maxine) Foster, Jackson, Mrs. Herman (Annabell) Halsrud, Estherville, and Mrs. John (Opal) Carlson, Trimont, Minn.; three sons, John Sytsma Jr., Greenwood, Wisc., Garth Sytsma and Warren Sytsma, both of Hutchinson, Minn.; two brothers, Daniel Sytsma and Murry Stysma, both of Pella; two sisters, Mary Sytsma, Pella, and Mrs. Lawrence (Elizabeth) Johnson, Osceola; 35 grandchildren; 61 great grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
