Mrs. H.M. Sorum Laid to Rest
Funeral Services Held at the Home on Last Saturday. Remains Taken to Albert Lea
The funeral services for Mrs. H.M. Sorum were held last Saturday morning at the home on the west side at eight o’clock in order that the remains might be taken to Albert Lea, Minn., on the nine o’clock train for burial. The Rev. Berge, pastor of the Norwegian Lutheran church of this city officiated and the quartette of that church sang two hymns loved by Mrs. Sorum. Many friends of the deceased assembled at the home for services and the floral offerings were exceedingly beautiful and many. The following obituary was read at the service:

Mrs. H.M. Sorum (Nee Ingrid Herem) was born June 29, 1838 in Lyster, Sogn, Norway. She was married April 5, 1872, to Hans M. Sorum and a month later they left for America. They came to Wanamingo, Minn., where they remained a year. Then they settled on a farm in Freeborn county, Minn., south of Albert Lea which continued to be their home until she came to Estherville in 1910 to make her home with her daughter, Marie Sorum. Here she spent the last years of a long life, lovingly cared for by her daughter. On Wednesday, March 14th, after a few days illness she passed away, as she had longed to do, looking for the City whose maker and builder is God.

She leaves to mourn her loss her daughter, Marie Sorum, county superintendent of schools; a son and a daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Mons Sorum of Austin, Minn.; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Chris Sorum of Albert Lea, Minn. and three grandchildren, Herbert, Leon and Francis Sorum. Her husband, two sons and one grandson have preceded her in death.

Brief funeral services were conducted at the home on Saturday morning by Rev. S.A. Berge and then the remains were brought to Freeborn county, Minn., where funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon in the Round Prairie Lutheran church of which she was a member. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, March 21, 1923)
