Estherville – Services for Verne Edward Schwidder, 52, will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tom Balm officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery with military graveside service with the VFW and American Legion Posts.Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home, Estherville, is in charge of arrangements. He died Wednesday, Dec. 2, 1987 at the Veterans Hospital, Sioux Falls, S.D.
He was born Oct. 28, 1935 at Spirit Lake, the son of Walter and Viola (Mott) Schwidder. He received his education in the Spirit Lake, Superior and Estherville schools. On Sept. 21, 1957 he was united in marriage with Lulubelle Huntley at Jackson, Minn.
Schwidder enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1952 and served in the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts. After his marriage, he reinlisted and made the Navy a career, serving until his retirement in 1974. He was a boiler engineer and served the entire time at sea, except two years at the Great Lakes Naval Base. He returned to Estherville in 1974 and worked at Arts-Way in Armstrong, later at Glasstite in Dunnell. He attended the United Methodist Church in Estherville and was a 10 year member of VFW Post 3388.
Schwidder is survived by his wife Lulubelle, Estherville; one daughter, Mrs. Eugene (Rosemarie) Friesner and granddaughter Nicole Friesner, Estherville ; three brothers: Herbert and James, Estherville and Robert, Hot Springs, S.D.; five sisters: Mrs. Walter (Marge) Howard, Norma and Linda, all of Estherville; Eleanor Guy, LaVerne, and Mrs. Morris (Sandra) Durnell, Emmetsburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, December 5, 1987)
