Spencer A. Sawyer Dies at Estherville
Urbana, April 1 – Funeral services were to have been held this afternoon at Estherville for Spencer Alva Sawyer, a former Urbana resident. Mrs. [Mr.] Sawyer, 59 years of age, died Thursday afternoon, March 28, at his home in Estherville after an illness of three years.

The deceased was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Spencer Sawyer. He was married to Fern Ferguson in Vinton Dec. 24, 1905 and she survives him.

Besides his wife Mr. Sawyer is survived by the following children: Carl Sawyer, Mrs. Ed Shirley, Williard Sawyer, J.D. Sawyer, Don Sawyer and Berdea Sawyer. Two children preceded him in death. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. Mae Neples of Canada; Noah Sawyer of Backus, Minn.; Ross Sawyer of Kentucky; Roy Sawyer and the Rev. Fred Sawyer of Waterloo. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Raul and Ed Sawyer, and two sisters, Mytle Langguth and Etta McCormick. (Benton County News, Benton, IA, April, 1946)
