Estherville – Services for Melvin Theodore Hanson, 82, of Estherville will be on Monday, October 19, at 2:00 p.m. at the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church with Pastor William Runaas presiding. Interment will be at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Estherville. He died Friday, October 16, at Holy Family Hospital.Military Graveside Services will be performed by VFW Post 3388 and American Legion Post 91.
He was born on October 7, 1910 in Badger, the son of John and Martha (Larson) Hanson. He was educated in Emmet County rural schools. He married Eva Anderson on January 31, 1953 in Graettinger. He farmed and drove a truck until joining the U.S. Army in 1943, with whom he served in the Pacific Theater. Following his marriage, he farmed from 1954 until 1983 on a farm located on Park Road in Estherville. He also was employed as a carpenter, plumber, and worked for the City of Estherville. In 1983 he retired and moved to town. He was a member of the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, VFW Post 3388, and a past member of the Estherville Fire Department.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Donald Hanson of Louisville, Kentucky, and Greg Hanson of Spirit Lake; and three daughters: Marlene Frost of Burnsville, Minn.; Karen Howard and Patty Pelzer, both of Estherville.
Other survivors include one brother, three sisters and 11 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parent, infant twin sons, four brothers and one sister. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, October 19, 1992)
