Obituary
Mr. John Spencer Child, well known in this city, having spent some time each year for the past few years at the home of his daughter, Mrs. E.W. Knight, passed away at his home in York, Neb., October 15th.Mr. John Spencer Child, was born in East Woodstock, Conn., September 30, 1833, and died at York, Neb., October 15, 1914.
In 1858 Mrs. Childs brought his bride to Rockford, Iowa, where he engaged in business and was postmaster for a number of years.
Ten years ago Mr. Childs and wife moved to York, Neb., where he had business interests, and though advanced in years he became identified, as in the old home, with the civic and religious life and progress of the place and people.
Since the death of his wife in 1907 Mr. Childs declined in health, but preserved to the end his interest in all that made for the advancement of the community in which he lived.
He is survived by five children, Harris M. Childs, Mrs. Alice Pierson, Leonard W. Childs, of York, Neb., Miss Gertrude Childs of Cedar Falls, and Mrs. E.W. Knight of this city. (October 21, 1914)

Mr. J.S. Childs, father of Mrs. E.W. Knight, died at his home in York, Nebraska, October 15th, aged 81 years. Mr. Childs was a fine old gentleman and quite well known in Estherville where he had made frequent visits.Obituary
