Estherville – Services for Eldon C. Miner, 63, of Estherville will be on December 18 at 10:30 a.m. in the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Chapel in Estherville with Rev. David Wendel presiding. Interment will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Estherville. He died December 15 at Holy Family Hospital. Full military graveside services will be performed by V.F.W. Post 3388 and American Legion Post 92.Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, December 17 at the funeral home.
He was born January 8, 1929 in Jack Creek Township, the son of Elmer and Lydia (Luhman) Miner. He was educated in Jack Creek Township and Graettinger schools and graduated from Gruver High School. He married Shirley Oleson on April 18, 1954 in Milford. He entered the U.S. Air Force in 1949 and served in Germany during the Korean Conflict. Following his discharge from the service, Eldon was employed selling insurance and real estate. He sold his insurance business in1963 and moved to a farm south of Estherville where he raise regular Angus cattle until selling the farm in 1972. He was then employed as a deputy sheriff and raised quarter horses. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Estherville, the V.F.W., the American Quarter Horse Association, Registered Angus Organization, and the Painted Horse Association. He was actively involved with Golden Gloves while in the Air Force and in Estherville.
He is survived by his wife, his mother, three sons: Doug Miner, Spirit Lake; Craig Miner, Prairie, Minn.; and Dennis Kohler, Virginia; and two daughters: Sari Bonnicksen, White Bear Lake, Minn. and Kim Miner, Estherville. Other survivors include ten grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, December 16, 1992)
