2 Emmet County Boys Reported Killed in Action
Donn Mauck, E.K. Vandeveer Fatalities
Two Emmet county boys today were reported killed in action. Pfc. Donn R. Mauck of Estherville was killed in Germany Jan. 27 and Second Lieut. E.K. Vandeveer of Dolliver was reported killed Jan. 23 in Belgium.

Vandeveer’s death was reported to his father-in-law, Lars Peterson

In Service 2 Years
Lieutenant Vandeveer, airforce pilot, has been in the service for two years and was sent overseas last May. His first training was in the CPT at Estherville, after which he was given further training at Waco, Texas and Camp Claiborne, La. Then he was sent overseas.

The wife of Lieutenant Vandeveer is living in Des Moines with her 14-year-old daughter. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, February 8, 1945)
