Mrs. Justus (Hattie Eva Lucas) Peterson [Petersen], 79, longtime Estherville resident, died yesterday afternoon at Holy Family Hospital. The cause of death was attributed to asthma and complications. She had been in failing health for several years.

Mrs. Peterson was born June 15, 1883, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Will May, in Milford. She received her education in the Milford schools.

The former Hattie Eva May was married to Roy W. Lucas on Dec. 5, 1906, in Milford and they moved to Estherville following their marriage. Mr. Lucas died on May 4, 1947. Mrs. Peterson was married to Justus Peterson on Nov. 29, 1950, in Worthington, Minn., and they lived in Estherville.

Mrs. Peterson was a member of the Service Star Legion and Pythian Sisters.

Surviving are her second husband, Justus Peterson, Estherville; one daughter, Mrs. Cecil (Ina) Erickson, Estherville, and one son, Clarence R. Lucas, Anchorage, Alaska. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Roy Lucas, one son, parents and two brothers.

Family services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Estherville Christian Church and public services will follow at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Lester Strubhar officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Reese Funeral Home from noon today and until 11 a.m. tomorrow at which time the body will be taken to the church where it will lie in state until time of service. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, April 5, 1963)
