Claus Henkins
Claus Henkins was born at Schleswig, Germany, September 28, 1863, and died at the State Hospital at Cherokee September 18, 1931. He would have been 68 years old had he lived to September 29 of this year. He came to America when five years old. He lived first at Clinton, later at Ogden and later at Estherville. Since 1914 he has lived in the West in quest of his failing health, until a brief time ago when he came to Cherokee to secure medical aid. He was married to Celestia Harmon December 31, 1896, at Estherville. To this union seven children were born, only two of whom, P.A. Henkins of Sheridan, Wyo., and Curt Henkins of Los Angeles, survive him. These with the widow and mother, mourn the loss of a devoted husband and father.Mr. Henkins united with the church of Christ at Estherville about 30 years ago in which he held his membership until death, having served a term in the office of deacon. He will be missed most from the home circle where for so long he had been a sufferer.
Funeral services were held at the Dwen funeral Parlors at Cherokee, Rev. B.H. Coomadt pastor of the Church of Christ, officiating and interment was made in the cemetery at Cherokee. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, September 23, 1931)
