J. Heneman [Henaman] Died Very Suddenly
Passed Away Last Friday Evening at His Home
He Was A Popular Man
Run Feed Shed For Several Years And Had Wide Acquaintance
This community was greatly shocked last Saturday morning to learn of the death of Joe Henneman which had occurred at his home Friday evening. Mr. Henneman had been around his feed shed as usual Friday but had gone home in the evening complaining of not feeling well. He died very suddenly during the evening. It was hard for his large circle of friends to believe that he had passed on, so suddenly did the messenger swoop down and claim him.

Mr. Henneman was one of the best known and best liked men of Estherville. His acquaintances extended out into the country on each side of the city and where ever he was known he was admired and respected as a square toed business man. For several years he conducted the feed yard in this city and his business dealings with the public were always such that he had the confidence and trust of all. He was a resident of Emmet county for twelve years part of the time on the farm and later in this city. He will be sorely missed from the business circles of Estherville, but the greatest loss will be in the home which he loved so well.

Joseph Henneman was born in Cumberland county, Pennsylvania, June 9, 1866, being at the time of his death 55 years, 1 month and 20 days of age.

He came to Sac county, Iowa in the fall of 1880. Here he grew to manhood. On New Year’s eve 1891 he was married to Miss Carrie Elizabeth Tredway. To this union were born four children, Russel, Loveta, Walter and Porter.

Twelve years ago he and his family moved to Emmet county and since that time have lived in Estherville and vicinity. Joseph Henneman was one of a family of ten children, only three of whom survive him. They are Mrs. Laura Wagner Tool of Sioux City; Mrs. Susie Shatto and Mrs. Ida Miller of Spencer, Iowa.

During his residence in Estherville Mr. Henneman came to be recognized as a man of integrity in his business relations. He was a man who loved his home and family in a large hearted way and his genial disposition had won for him many friends who will deeply sympathize with his wife and family in their common loss.

At the time of his death Mr. Henneman was an active member of the local order of the B.P.O.E.

The out of town relatives of the family who were in attendance at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. David Shatto of Fostoria, Mrs. Phillip Henneman of Fostoria, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Miller of Spencer, Mrs. Melvin Miller of Spencer, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Dean and Mrs. Pearl Tredway of Huron, S.D. and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Stevens, Floyd Stevens and Jim Stevens of Terril, Curtis and Elmer Henneman of Armstrong. The out of town friends were Mr. and Mrs. J.D. Robinson, Marshall Robinson, James Robinson and Elizabeth Robinson of Shaller, Iowa and Clint Roop of Storm Lake.
In the death of Mr. Hennaman the city has lost a good booster and respected citizen, one who was always striving in his unassuming way to leave the world a better place than he found. His life will long be remembered because it was so full of service. Funeral services were held from the Presbyterian church Monday afternoon at one o’clock a large number of friends gathering to pay their great tribute to a true friend. The services were in charge of Rev. Voorhies. The Elks lodge of which he was an honored member attended in a body and had charge of the services at the grave. The bereaved family have the deepest sorrow of the entire community in this dark hour of sorrow. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, August 3, 1921)
