Estherville – Funeral services for Clara Margaret Hammer, 87, of Estherville will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 27 at the First Presbyterian Church in Estherville with Pastor W. Willis Longer officiating. Interment will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery, Estherville. She died on Friday, December 22 at Holy Family Hospital in Estherville.Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, December 26 at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville and one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday. Eastern Star services will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, December 26 at the funeral home.
She was born on July 6, 1908 in Storm Lake, the daughter of William and Margaret (Laase) Gutel. She received her education in the Buena Vista County Schools. She was united in marriage to Walter B. Hammer on August 14, 1929. In 1944, the couple moved to Estherville.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Circle, Major Agers, Order of the Eastern Star, Past Matrons and other volunteer organizations.
Memorials are preferred to the Estherville Community Schools, First Presbyterian Church or Holy Family Hospital.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Jay (Phyllis) Karr of Fulton, Mo.; Mrs. Richard (Lois) Stright of Oakdale, Minn.; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and two brothers, Ernest Gutel and Clifford Gutel. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, December 23, 1995)
