Rites Tuesday, Lakota, for Mrs. Hamilton
Lakota – Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church Tuesday afternoon for Mrs. Maude Hamilton, 82. Rev. Harlan Kruse was in charge of the services. Gerald Heetland sang “Near to the Heart of Jesus” and “Beyond the Sunset.”Pallbearers were I.E. Wortman, W.D. Ley, A.E. Anderson, A.C. Schissel, Charles Booth and George Booth. Interment was in the Oak Hill Cemetery at Estherville.
Mrs. Hamilton was born April 23, 1875 at Mt. Morris, Ill., the daughter of Joseph and Harriet Youngman. She lived in Illinois until she was 15 years of age when she moved with her parents to a farm near Estherville.
Later her parents retired to the city of Estherville. As a young woman she attended Iowa State Teachers College where she took a two year normal training course. For several years thereafter she taught schools in Estherville and in Maple Hill.
In 1915 she was united in marriage to Robert Hamilton. To this union was born a son, Robert of Lakota.
Following their marriage, they came to Lakota where they continued to life. Her husband preceded her in death in 1932.
Mrs. Hamilton has been a member of the Order of Eastern Star for nearly 40 years and has been a member of the Presbyterian church since 1916.
She had been in reasonably good health up to the time of her passing, which came suddenly and unexpectedly at her home Sunday morning, Feb. 2.
In addition to her son, she is survived by one brother, Oaks Youngman of Los Angeles, Cal.; four sisters, Mrs. Winnifred Ray and Mrs. Blanche Jordan both of Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. August Guttenberg of St. Paul, Minn., and Mrs. Mabel Hilmer of Rochester, Minn., three grandsons and other relatives and friends.
