Rites Friday for Elmer Lee, 59
Elmer Odein Lee, 59, Estherville, took his own life Tuesday [January 9, 1968] morning at his home. He had been in ill health for some time and had been despondent.

He was born Dec. 23, 1908, at Ottawa, Ill., to Mr. and Mrs. Chris Lee. He received his education in Illinois and Cylinder, Iowa, schools.

He was married Feb. 1, 1931, to Leah Fessler at the Estherville Lutheran Church. He had come to the Cylinder area with his mother in 1921 and farmed in the Cylinder, Bert and Fenton areas before moving to Estherville in 1945.

Since moving here he had been employed by Golden Sun Milling Co., Kinnard’s Dairy and for the past five years, Arts-Way Manufacturing Co., Armstrong.

He was a member of Estherville Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife, four sons, Eldon, Marion; Darrell, Estherville; Delmer, Worthington; Lonnie, at home; also seven grandchildren; five sisters, Mrs. Silas Johnson, Lock Port, Ill.; Mrs. Margaret Flory, Lock Port, Ill.; Mrs. Mike Nelson, Estherville; Mrs. Earl Chalus, Utica, Ill.; Mrs. Alfred Berkland, Wahoo, Neb., and a brother, Maynard, of Sioux City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one grandchild.

Family services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Estherville Lutheran Church. Public services at 2 p.m., Rev. William Planz and Rev. Christian Notsund, officiating.

Burial will be in East Side Cemetery.

Friends may call at Reese-Henry Funeral Home, Estherville after 10 a.m. Thursday until noon Friday when the casket will be taken to the church. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, January 10, 1968)
