Mrs. William Swartz of Estherville passed away about 11:30 Tuesday evening, May 15 while undergoing an operation. She is the mother of Mrs. Lambert Roetman and of Rolland Elkin of Lake Park.

Mrs. Swartz, nee Della Hasty, was born 71 years ago in Illinois. She was married to Edward Elkin at Lily, Ill., and the family came to Iowa in 1908. Her husband passed away in 1934. She was united in marriage to William Swartz at Estherville in 1945. She was the mother of nine children, three of whom preceded her in death. This Mother's Day she was very happy to have all six children home for the first time in 14 years. Her daughter from Texas spent two weeks with her during the time Mrs. Swartz was ill recently. She had been a sufferer with arthritis for many years.

She leaves her husband, six children, 19 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. The children are: Marshall Elkin of Spencer; Emily, Mrs. Lambert Roetman, of Lake Park; Elva, Mrs. McDanielson of Harlington, Texas; Harry Elkin of Spirit Lake; Rolland Elkin of Lake Park; and Howard Elkin of Milford.

Funeral services were held Friday, May 18 at the Christian church of Estherville, with burial there in Oak Hill cemetery. Rev. Clyde Leeds officiated at the services. (Lake Park News, Lake Park, IA, May 24, 1951)
