Death of Ed. Eikert
Monday night the sad intelligence reached Estherville from Hot Springs, Ark., that Ed. Eikert had died at that city on Monday [July 31, 1899]. Soon after his arrival at Hot Springs a few weeks ago he was taken with typhoid pneumonia and grew steadily worse until death came to his relief. His mother was at the bedside when the end came having gone to him early last week. She arrived here with the remains this morning and the funeral took place this morning, the service being held at the residence. Mr. Eikert was about thirty years old and because of his faithful services for several years at M.R. Tone’s barber shop, was well known to nearly all residents of this city and vicinity. His demeanor was very quiet and his gentlemanly ways made for him hosts of friends who will sincerely regret his sudden taking away. (Emmet County Republican, Estherville, IA, August 3, 1899)
