Esther Dawson
Estherville – Services for Mrs. Charles (Esther) Dawson, 84, were held Monday at the First Christian Church with the Rev. Robert Kunz officiating. Interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery. She died Friday, Dec. 2, 1983 at Holy Family Hospital.

Henry and Olson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Esther Clarissa McCarty was born April 11, 1899 in Wright County, Iowa, the daughte4r of Charles and Minnie (Saugstad) McCarty. She attended Madelia, Minn. schools. ON May 24, 1919 she was united in marriage with Charles Dawson at Madelia. She taught school before her marriage and moved to Estherville in 1929 and has lived here ever since. She was a member of the First Christian Church and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include two sons, C. Richard Dawson, Des Moines and George Dawson, Estherville; one daughter, Mrs. Margaret Hayward, Des Moines; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; four sisters: Mrs. Tom (Joy) Leonard, Mrs. Gretchen Malherek of Chicago, Mrs. Harold (Naomi) Zeller, Rochester, Minn. and Mrs. Gladys Freerksen, Kanawha.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, one brother and two sisters. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, December 5, 1983)
